4-H member wins national volunteer award

A Bear River High School senior has been honored with a President’s Volunteer Service Award.
Dannon Ivey, 18, was nominated by the Nevada County 4-H Youth Development Program after completing more than 250 hours of community service in one year.
The Grass Valley youth’s accomplishments include working as the 4-H Summer Camp director, a Nevada County 4-H All Star and for creating a traveling Petting Zoo for 4-H youth to share their small animals with residents of convalescent homes. He will be attending Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin, in the fall.
The national honor recognizes Americans who have volunteered significant amounts of time to serve their communities. It was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of President Barack Obama.
