A tip of the cap to Dave Carter. The baseball enthusiast and longtime Rotarian was named Rotarian of the Month in June by 49er Breakfast Rotary Club President Brian Bisnett, who cited the club newsletter, 49er Footnotes, which Carter produces and took top honors recently at the Rotary District 5190 Conference.

Cathy Hardin, daughter of Ken Hardin of InConcert Sierra and stepdaughter of Julie Hardin of InConcert, received her Master’s degree in library and information science in June from the University of Washington’s online program. She was also the online representative of the association of library and information science students. To celebrate, the Hardin family is trekking through the Andes in Peru.

Marge Kaiser, local resident and ecologist, recently received recognition for her 20 years of work with the Cottonwood Ranch Cooperative Conservation effort by the Nevada Department of Wildlife. The Cottonwood Ranch effort is a collaboration among cattle ranchers, U.S. Forest Service, Department of Fish and Game, Nevada Department of Wildlife, Bureau of Land Management and the University of Nevada at Reno extension. The effort is part of the Shoesole Resource Management Group that began in 1996 in Elko, Nevada. Marge is now working on bringing speakers to Nevada County to share the success of the project.

Kurt Congdon and Samantha Clapp, daughter of Nicole Dillard, owner of An Inner Sanctum book store in Nevada City, were married May 29 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Playa del Carmen in Mexico at a beach wedding. Samantha, a state tax auditor, and Kurt, who works in real estate, met in Grass Valley and were engaged in July 2015. The wedding had a nautical theme and the bride arrived in a horse and carriage. Plenty of lobsters and seashells embellished the celebration, with 32 guests from around the world.

George Roberts and Judy Saldavini hosted an AnimalSave benefit with pizza and wine at their Bridge House on June 6. The event netted $1,200 for needy animals.

Alexander Rossi, this year’s Indy 500 winner, will be featured in the Golden 50th Constitution Day Parade. The Famous Marching Presidents of Nevada City look forward to saluting the Nevada County native on Sept. 11, said David “Sparky” Parker, Marching Presidents’ event founder and co-organizer.
