Community radio station KVMR-FM 89.5 will celebrate 38 years of innovative broadcasting with a birthday party from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, in Nevada City’s Pioneer Park.
The party will feature a potluck barbeque, acoustic jamming and sing-alongs. Staff also plans to roll out an early iteration of an Amazing Race-type contest they plan to feature at a later date. Anyone interested in participating can contact Development Director Cynthia Tweed at 530-362-7005.
There is no charge for the community event, which harkens back to KVMR’s humble beginning in a tiny miner’s shack on Banner Mountain.
Meanwhile, Miners Foundry and KVMR will present a Bridge Street Connection Stage of live music at the Foundry entrance during Nevada City’s Summer Nights on Wednesdays in July. On July 13, Northern Roots will open for Boca Do Rio; Buck Star plays on July 20, and J Ross Parelli will be featured July 27.
Fundraising continues and opportunities exist for those interested in donating to the Bridge Street Project. For more information, contact Tweed.
